Chloé Lopes Gomes stands at the center of a line of ballerinas, her presence challenging a tradition that too often treated whiteness as part of ballet’s aesthetic. The portrait honors the French dancer who became the first Black ballerina at Staatsballett Berlin and later spoke publicly about the racial discrimination she experienced there.
