Pieta October 7
Pieta October 7
from $35.00
In My Pietà, I return to the image of a mother holding a lifeless body, placing it within the grief of October 7. The figure can be understood as Mary, herself a Jewish mother, and as a mother mourning in the present. A Star of David, blue stripes recalling a prayer shawl, and a Nova festival bracelet connect the familiar composition to Jewish identity and contemporary loss.
The stone-like palette holds the figures in a stillness that contrasts with the mother’s searching eyes. For me, the painting brings histories together through the intimate act of holding someone you cannot protect.
